  • Axle Keyways by PKT.
    • Keyways are used to hold hubs for wheels, brake rotors, and sprockets in place on the rear axle of nearly every kart.
  • Precision milled from hardened steel alloy to prevent wear or fracture, and ensure proper fitment.
  • To choose the right key for your application, consult our diagram explaining how the dimensions of keys are denoted here, and the individual pictures of each key provided.
  • Available in a variety of sizes (denoted in key width x depth x length):
    • 8mm x 5mm x 60mm "Flat Key": This key is ideal for 'old style' axles that utilize a groove in the axle, rather than a milled flat surface with peg points. These keys are notoriously more difficult to remove, and are not commonly found on modern karts. However, they are a great key solution. If this key is correct for you, your axle will have milled keyway grooves that are 8mm in width.
    • 6mm x 5mm x 60mm "Flat Key": This key is ideal for 'old style' axles that utilize a groove in the axle, rather than a milled flat surface with peg points. These keys are notoriously more difficult to remove, and are not commonly found on modern karts. However, they are a great key solution. If this key is correct for you, your axle will have milled keyway grooves that are 6mm in width.
    • 1/4" x 6mm x 60mm Keyway (2-Peg): This keyway is less commonly used in karting, but for sprocket, brake, and wheel carriers (hubs) that use a 1/4" width keyway, these are the keyways you want to fit all PKT axles. The 2-peg design ensures the key will remain in the axle during operation, and the spacing between the pegs, center-to-center, is 30mm, which is the standard spacing on PKT (as well as many other) axles.
    • 6mm x 6mm x 60mm Keyway (2-Peg): This keyway is applicable for many Kid and Cadet sized karts (25 or 30mm axles) for sprocket, brake, and wheel carriers (hubs) that use a 6mm width keyway. The 2-peg design ensures the key will remain in the axle during operation, and the spacing between the pegs, center-to-center, is 30mm, which is the standard spacing on PKT (as well as many other) axles.
    • 6mm x 6mm x 60mm Keyway (2-Peg with 7.5mm Pegs): This keyway is applicable for Birel axles that utilize a larger keyway peg-hole diameter, at 7.5mm vs. the standard 6mm. The 2-peg design ensures the key will remain in the axle during operation, and the spacing between the pegs, center-to-center, is 30mm, which is the standard spacing on PKT (as well as many other) axles.
    • 6mm x 5mm x 60mm & 8mm x 5mm x 60mm Keyway - The "Step Key": NOTE - This key is for discontinued PKT axles, likely not for you! But, if it is, this keyway is intended for PKT Part #'s PKT 25-915-B, PKT 30-915-A, PKT 30-1060-A & PKT 30-1100-A. This keyway worked as 'flip' key, where one side fit the axle, the other side fit hubs. Again, likely not for the common karter.
    • 8mm x 6mm x 60mm Keyway (2-Peg with 6.0mm Pegs): This keyway is used on PKT's Kid Kart (25mm and 30mm) and Cadet (30mm) axles. This keyway is ideal for all hubs, sprocket and brake carriers that need 8mm keyways (like TonyKart hubs).
    • 8mm x 6mm x 60mm Keyway (2-Peg with 6.0mm Pegs) OTK Style: This keyway is used on PKT's Kid Kart (25mm and 30mm) and Cadet (30mm) axles. This keyway is ideal for all hubs, sprocket and brake carriers that OTK (Tonykart, FA, Exprit) uses as standard, which are 8mm keyway width components. These keyways are slightly taller than the standard 6mm, as most OTK hubs and components have extra depth to them in the keyway area.
    • 8mm x 6mm x 60mm Keyway (3-Peg with 7.5mm Pegs): These axle keyways are for PKT's 50mm axles, but will fit many other axles as well. With larger diameter keyway pegs, these keys can handle more robust forces on them. A 3-peg key is best used for brake hubs and sprocket carriers (34mm center-to-center on outer pegs).
    • 8mm x 6mm x 60mm Keyway (2-Peg with 7.5mm Pegs): These keys are ideal for axles with 7.5mm peg holes, including 50mm PKT axles. use of these keys is recommended for hub keyways.
    • 8mm x 6mm x 60mm Keyway (2-Peg with 7.5mm Pegs) Birel: This keyway is sized for Birel 40 and 50mm axles that utilize 7.5mm diameter pegs, with 30mm center-to-center peg widths (Birel 40 & 50mm Axles) Peg Diameter: 7.5mm.

Note: As of 02.02.2022 the 1/4 x 6 x 60mm keys are no longer made.

  • Each key is sold individually, with no additional hardware.
